YOU ARE ENERGY. Your physical body is made up of thousands of channels and radiant circuits which nourish and support all your tissues, organs, and every cell of your body. This energy is five-fold. You are made up of nuclear energy stored in the nucleus of every atom. You are made up of electro-magnetic energy which is the same energy stored in plants through photosynthesis. You are radiant thermal vibrations and this kinetic energy can be felt in you as heat. You are chemical energy as you burn sugar and reorganize the elements of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon to form water and carbon dioxide. As they absorb and release energy, you “experience” energy. You are mechanical energy. Your muscles contracting and expanding and the sound waves pulsing through your physiology are examples of this.
So when we speak of ENERGY, we are speaking about what each of us all are at our very core. You may not be able to see or feel this energy, but it is alive and well in your body. It is what keeps your body functioning. We just forget or become unconscious of the fact. The Chinese system and Ancient Vedic texts have stated for thousands of years that energy is at the core of everything and now modern Western physics is verifying this. Everything has a frequency or vibration. Each gland, organ, and body system has a vibration. Even your thoughts and the food you eat have a vibration.
There is an interrelationship between the human body and the natural environment. This energy is outside of us and inside of us. Perhaps you have made the connection with the seasonal changes and how they affect you. A perfect example of this is S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder). The light of the sun and it’s warmth is desperately needed by our bodies, as well as the vitamin D it contains. Overcast, rainy climates like in Washington state or Switzerland have many people suffering with depression as a direct result of the climate. There are many other ways to describe this exchange and direct experience between the environment and ourselves and I will address them in my blog. For now, let’s just take in the simple fact we need to breathe every moment and the interplay we do with the trees outside provides the oxygen- carbon dioxide exchange that allows our breathing to be possible. This is a wonderful symbiotic relationship that is a win-win for both species.
The energy we receive in breathing is miraculous. The process of the oxygen molecules hooking up with hemoglobin in the red blood cells and forming oxyhemoglobin to carry 75% more oxygen then it would normally, amazes me. It is the reactions of cellular respiration in the inner membrane of the mitochondria (energy powerhouses of our cells) that is eventually carried and entered into the electron transport chain that produce ATP (a coenzyme that transports chemical energy within cells for metabolism). We would not even be able to extract energy in the form of ATP from the glucose in our food without oxygen. So let's hear it for breathing!
So how does this energy move and work inside our bodies? Meridians are energy channels that transport our energy throughout the body and this energy is known in Oriental medicine as Qi (Chi). When this flow is blocked- due to injury, stress, lifestyle choices (diet, habits, exercise), our health declines. I will explain how each meridian flows and how we can tap into them to balance our energy each day. This ancient understanding of energy is the new Energy Medicine and paradigm shift for our healing today.
